The Quietest Seats on a Plane

Where to Find the Quietest Seats on an Airplane
by Jordi Lippe-McGraw

Quietest Seat on Plane

Choosing a seat on a plane is a gamble. You never know who your neighbor will be.

There could be a screaming baby, a chatty stranger, or you might inadvertently choose a seat a little too close to the constant rumbling of the engine. What if there was a strategic way to pick a seat likely to be the quietest?

For a video JetBlue just published on its blog, the airline asked one of its pilots for his take on where to find the quietest seat on the plane. Here’s what he had to say:

“There’s less noise when you’re sitting forward on the wings,” said the pilot, identified as Christian P. “In most planes, the engines are located under the wings. Sitting in the front of the wing is like being behind a speaker. All of the sounds of the engine and the disturbed air are projected away from you.”

And so for a more peaceful ride, the pilot said, “find a seat in the front of the cabin – on or forward of the wing.”

While JetBlue’s tip won’t protect you from an unruly toddler, it could make your trip just a little more peaceful. And if you want to up your chances even more, considering investing in some noise-canceling headphones.

“Do not go where the path leads, travel instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”  @wbbrjp
