The World’s Five Star Airlines

There are only Eight Five-Star Airlines in the World

There are many hotels rated five stars, but five-star airlines are much more rare. EVA Air has now received the honor from airline ranking website Skytrax, and the carrier is only the eighth to do so — ever.

The Taiwanese carrier initially had a four-star rating, but was bumped up after a year-long evaluation process that included more than 800 categories. The airline’s performance, customer service and amenities were all taken into consideration.

“All of us at EVA Air are deeply humbled by this important award,” said Steve Lin, EVA’s chairman. “Skytrax’s five-star rating is a great honor and also a great responsibility. It is extremely gratifying that all of our hard work to keep quality service and safety as our top priorities is recognized.”

EVA Air has a reputation for providing luxurious air travel with top-notch amenities. In their Royal Laurel Class, passengers receive champagne, steak, fresh lobster, noise-cancelling headphones, HD touch screens, Rimowa overnight kits with beauty products, pajamas, and Fiji water.

“The five-star airline symbol is recognized throughout the world by passengers, media, airlines and the travel industry as a whole,” said Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted. “We are trusting EVA and giving it a lot of responsibility to maintain these high standards.”

EVA Air is only the eighth airline in the world to be given a Five-Star rating.

To get the top rating, Skytrax looks at overall quality performance. “This 5-Star Airline rating recognizes the highest standards of Airport and Onboard Product provided by an airline to customers, together with consistent and high standards of front-line staff service across the airport and onboard service environments,” reads the site.

There are 37 Four-Star airlines in the world, according to Skytrax, including Emirates, Thai Airways, British Airways, Qantas, and China Airlines. On the other end of the list – North Korea’s Air Koryo is the world’s only one-star airline.
